Cate, Juanita "Barney" Smith- age 88 of Kodak, TN passed away November 19, 2013, at the Tennova Residential Hospice in Halls. "Barney" was a life-long resident of Kodak in Sevier County, a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church, Kodak O.E.S. #460, and the Sevier County High School Class of 1945. She was retired from the Sevier County School System and spent many years as a small business owner in the Kodak Community. With love for her family and friends as well as a great sense of humor, "Barney" shared her zest for life. A gentle smile, laughter, and acts of kindness were her trademarks. "Barney" was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Toy V. Cate; parents, Elizabeth and Matt Smith; brother, M.D. Smith; brother-in-law, Joe Widner, son-in-law, Donald Riley, and dear friend, Ruby Lee Drinnen. Survived by daughter, Joyce Riley of New Market, TN; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Margaret Cate of Kodak, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Lyn Presley of Anderson,SC; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike Roberts of Sparta, TN; grandchildren, Matt and Rajayna Riley, Joe and Pam Cate, Gina and Anthony Kirby, Spencer and Beth Riley, Rocky and Natalea Riley, Branden and Kari Lea Cate, Brandi and John Brookins, Brandon, Ben, and Bill Rhodes, Jeff, Chris, and Ryan Ross, Chris and Ashley Presley; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister, Lillie Widner; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn Jo and Wayne Henry ; dear friends, Helen Cline and Leon Drinnen; sisters-in-law, numerous friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Beech Springs Baptist Church in Kodak, TN with Rev. Jerry Vittatoe, Rev. Brandon Cate and Rev. Richard Compton officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Beech Springs Baptist Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at Beech Springs Baptist Church. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Beech Springs Baptist Church in Kodak, TN.
