Man dies in Chapman Highway accident
SEYMOUR —
A Knoxville man died last week as a result of injuries he suffered when he was struck by his own truck. He had gotten out of it on Chapman Highway after it broke down.
Fifty-year-old Danny Dodson died Friday on his way to The University of Tennessee Medical Center, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Carl Duryea.
Dodson had gotten out of his Ford Ranger on the busy highway at about 6:30 a.m. Friday after the truck broke down, Duryea said.
Another motorist, Lloyd A. Stoppelbein, 52, of Seymour, had stopped in front of Dodson and gotten out of his car to see if he could help.
While Dodson stood in front of the truck and Stoppelebein was in the shoulder, a third motorist came around a nearby curve and was unable to avoid striking Dodson's truck, pinning him under the truck.
Dodson was conscious and responsive when emergency responders arrived at the scene, but died on the way to the hospital, Duryea said.
