Smelcer, Raymond, age 83, of Powell, passed away at Parkwest Medical Center on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army in 1953 and 1954. After many years of service, he retired from Jim Walter Paper Company. He worked diligently in volunteering for several charitable organizations including the Blind Association and was a former member of Powell Lions Club. He was preceded in death by parents, Bill and Susie Smelcer, Seymour; sisters, Anna Mae Smelcer, Kathryn Whaley, Mary (Nannie) Allen, Mayme Lewis; brothers Murel, Roy, Charles, Alvin and Wendell Smelcer. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Doug and Kim Smelcer, Powell, and Tony and Kim Smelcer, Cookeville; granddaughter Jennifer and husband Steve Stooksbury; great granddaughter Gracie Stooksbury, Powell; sisters Ruth and husband Blackie Johnson and Zelma and husband Glenn Breeden, Seymour; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service 7:30 pm Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with Alan Cottrell officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Friday Knob Creek Cemetery, Knob Creek Road, Seymour, TN for 11:00 am interment. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Corryton Church, 7615 Foster Rd, Corryton, TN 37721 or Engrafted Word Church, 5 West Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:30 pm Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Halls Chapel.
