Ruth Ann Cheek Lindsey, age 74 of Sevierville, TN, formerly of Lexington, TN, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017.
Ruth Ann Cheek Lindsey was born in Grosse Pointe, MI on November 7, 1942. In 1959 her family was relocated to Lexington, TN where she met and married the love of her life, Jerry, in 1964. Together they opened Lindsey Carpet Outlet and lived in Lexington for the next 13 years. After relocating to Sevierville, TN they began a long and successful career in the tourism / amusement industry. Ruth Ann taught Sunday School, directed the Care Center, and served as Ladies Ministry president at New Hope Church of God for many years. She loved her church and her church family. Her passions included decorating… redecorating, shopping, cooking, and being with her immense number of family and friends.
In 2008, Ruth Ann suddenly contracted encephalitis, which left her requiring constant care. Jerry and her family stood by her side through the next nine years with many onsets of illness and challenges until she passed away suddenly Friday morning from complications due to pneumonia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Linton and Ruth Cheek; step-mother, Martha Cheek; brother, David Cheek; son-in-law, Chord Carnley; father and mother-in-law, Plautt and Aral Lindsey; and sister-in-law, Anne Lindsey.
Survivors:
Husband: Jerry Neal Lindsey;
Daughters and Sons-in-law: Sarah and Chris Gordon, Stephanie and Jeff Whaley, and Bethany Carnley;
Grandchildren: Lindsey Beecham, Seth Cole, Wesley Cole, Tyler Gordon, Nick Gordon, Ashlyn Whaley, Jayden Whaley, Colton Carnley, and Cameron Carnley;
Great Grandchildren: Cayden, Ellie, Mia, Brecken, and Celia;
Brother and Sister-in-law: Jim and Paulette Cheek;
Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Linda and Stan Martin, Mary Lou and Terry Blankenship;
Several nieces and nephews;
Special friends: Jacki Hall and Bob and Nancy Rogers.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who have assisted Mrs. Lindsey in years past, especially special friends Tracie Walker and Vickie Odle.
The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Monday with funeral service following at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Sterbens officiating.
The family will also receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday at Reed's Chapel in Lexington Tennessee. Graveside service 11 AM Wednesday in Darden Cemetery.
