January 6, 1928 - January 26, 2018
Ann (Douglas) Depew, age 90 of Kodak, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours on Friday, January 26, 2018. Ann had strongly battled a short illness before her passing. She is preceded in death by her parents Jess Douglas and Hettie (Hodge) Douglas, her husband Jack, her children Jack, Gail, Karen Whicker, and daughter-in-law Annetta (Burton) Depew and several beloved siblings.
Ann was raised in a large family of 10 girls and 1 boy. She was very close with her two remaining sisters Carolyn and Nell, her son-in-law Roger Whicker, step-daughter Cheryl Tilley and her husband Arthur, and many others. Ann was the adored and beloved grandma to Sabrina Ann (Depew) Copas and her husband Robby, Josh Knisley, Crystal Kneiser and husband Cliff, Adam Douglas Depew and his wife Liz, David Speaks, and Angela Gann. She was so loved and treasured by her great-grandchildren Tyler Hansen, Luke, Annetta and Olivia Copas, Zane Kneiser, Cheyenne, Isabelle and Jack Depew, Kyrie and Bryson Gann, Michael and Joshua Knisley.
Ann was a member of Alder Branch Baptist Church and enjoyed her time there for many years. Ann was an amazing beautician and started her career in 1962. She had also been employed in her younger years at Kay’s Ice Cream and the Standard Knitting Mill, where she ran between nine and eleven machines at a time. She enjoyed sports, planned the best picnics, made the most amazing chess cake, corn bread and roast on the planet. She loved a good joke, could light up the room with her twinkling, beautiful blue eyes and was without a doubt one of the most generous and kind souls that ever lived. Ann never met a stranger. She treated everyone with love and often gave sweaters, scarves, and jackets off of her back to those in need. She loved music, especially hymns and she sang beautifully. She made her family so thankful and proud. She will be missed in thousands of ways. Our hearts are broken but we know that we will see her again one day. She was truly incredible and a joyful blessing. Ann recently celebrated her 90th birthday and spoke of how much each card that she received meant to her. She read them over and over and we are so grateful for the love that she felt. When we think of our grandma we think of her quick wit, her beauty, her love of chewing gum, lip gloss, fancy and fun shoes and purses, her fondness of knickknacks and a good yard sale. You couldn’t leave her house without some sort of gift, even if it was an ink pen, or a fan that she picked up at the flea market. She would give her last dollar to you if she knew that you needed it. She made us laugh with her hilarious one liners and no matter what she had been through her heart was always so genuinely good, loving, pure and kind. We will all miss different details, but the one thing we will be the most grateful for is her amazing love for the Lord and each one of us.
The family will receive friends 4-5 PM Wednesday with funeral service to follow at 5 PM in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Rev. Jim Hutson will officiate. Interment will be 12 noon Thursday in Beech Springs Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
