Oscar (J.R.) Griffin, 69,of Chestnut Hill, went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 3, 2005, following a brief illness. J.R. retired from Bush's and was a Christian. He also served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hamilton and Gertrude Miller Griffin; a granddaughter and grandson, Linda Scarlett Tucker and Ronald Jackson Byrd Jr.; and one brother, William Plug Griffin. Surviving J.R. is a wife of 44 years, Mary (Gibson) Griffin, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Jill Griffin, of Seymour; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Brenda and Ronnie Byrd, of Sevierville; Glenda Sutton, of Dandridge; and Linda and Billy Tucker, of Newport; three sisters: Sadie and husband, Kyle Buckner, of Bybee; Evelyn Fox, also of Bybee; and Patsy Denton, of Wears Valley; brothers: Richard and wife, Claudine Griffin, of Lenoir City; David and wife, Jan Griffin, of Sevierville; and Mark T. and wife, Gail Griffin, of Dandridge; four granchildren: Brandy Griffin, Jessie Griffin, Diamond Tucker, and Walter Byrd; and special love adoption, Mark Byrd. Several nieces and nephews and a numerous friends also survive J.R. The family received friends Monday, December 5, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. in Chestnut Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Wells officiating.
