Bob was a native of Newport, Tenn.; he retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class having served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany and the United States. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Blountville where he was a part of the Senior Men's Sunday school class. He is preceded in death by his son, David and his first wife, Laura Katherine. He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughter, Karen and son in law, Thomas Jowers; two granddaughters, Laura Evans and Kelly Jowers; four step grandchildren, Ashley Slemmer, Yvonne Slemmer, Darin Richardson and Joshua Richardson; two great grandchildren, Gavin Jowers and Chloe Jowers; three step children, Michael Grove, Denise Slemmer and Tina Richardson; two sisters, Edith Jones and Ruth Hickman; one brother, Jack Roberts ; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday February 24, 2001 in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Clay Austin officiating. The burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Newport, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Akard Funeral Home.
