Bessie Mae Smith , age 86, of Newport formally of Bybee went to be with the Lord Wednesday July 13, 2005 at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in Knoxville. She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Hensley ; grandson, Joshua Smith ; parents, Ruben and Lula (Holt) Smith ; brothers, Melvin Smith , Johnny Smith , and R.A. Smith and sister, Elizabeth Hance. Bessie is survived by her daughter, Pearl Legg of White Pine and her fiancee, Tommy (Clinton) Moyer ; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Donny Williamson of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lori Smith of Newport; son, Eric Smith of Newport; grandchildren, Donna & Arnold Guzman, Lora and Paul Gardner, Jimmie and Misty Legg, Rhonda and Brian Blalock, and Brian and Yaulanda Smith ; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Lucille King of Rossville, GA; brother, Glen Smith of Newport and special friend Haley Hicks. Ms. Smith will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and a host of other special friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday July 16, 2005 at 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Henderson officiating. Graveside service will be conducted Sunday July 17, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening July 16, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service.
