Betty Ruth Roach Reed obituary
- [S106] The Mountain Press, 23 Mar 2011.
Malcom “Mack” H. Reed was a builder most his life and knew how to work with his hands. “Among the many things I learned from my dad,” said his son, Craig, “was him teaching me how to work with my hands. That is one of the most cherished memories I will keep. Also when it was time to pray, Dad could give one of the most heartfelt prayers and even in his last years he would pray with such a beautiful and meaningful flow of words.”
Our Dad passed away Feb. 28, 2011, at 90 years of life. He led a full life. Our Dad was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Irving, Ky. He served three and a half years over seas in the United States Army during World War II. He married Betty Ruth Roach after the war and together they owned and operated several local businesses over the years, including the Rhythm Ranch, Reed’s Construction, and Reed’s Townhouses. They entered the chalet rental, construction, and real estate business in Gatlinburg, Tenn. in the early 1970s. Before moving to Tennessee Mack and Betty were active members of the Calvary Missionary Church and the Fairfield Missionary Church. In Tennessee even at 90, Mack never missed a Sunday at the Cowboy church.
Mack is survived by his daughter, Cindy Maples, in Sevierville, Tenn.; son Craig Reed (Anita Benthein), Fairfield TWP., Ohio; grandchildren, Timothy Alan Wilson, Amanda Faye Grissom, Joshua King and Jason Craig Reed; great-grandchildren Seth Alan Brent Wilson, Parker Jayden Wilson, Jackson Eli Wilson, Garrett James Wilson, Aubrey Ann Grissom, Annaliese Grissom, Bennett Grissom, and Amelia Grissom, Kylea Reed and Kiran Reed; sister Roberta “Bert” Troupe; brothers-in-law Orville and Harrison Roach.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth Reed, by his parents, brothers, half-brothers half-sisters, and a son Timothy Alan Reed. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1770 Eaton Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 with graveside service following at Rose Hill Cemetery where Our Dad will be buried beside our Mom.
