UNION CITY, Tenn. —
Completed arrangements are being announced for Nancy Jane (Rainwater) Gilliam, 75, of Union City, who died Jan. 20, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Carolyn E. Farmer and John N. Trundle officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at White-Ranson Funeral Home and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of services at the church.
The family requests that memorials be made to the sanctuary bell tower restoration fund at the church at 1422 Pleasant Valley Ave., Union City, TN 38261; or Rainwater Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 4124, Sevierville, TN 37864.
She was born July 10, 1937, in Sevier County, daughter of the late Rex and Cassie Anna (Marshall) Rainwater. She married Ralph Gilliam March 28, 1959. He survives. She earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee in Memphis and her master’s degree in public health at the Orlando campus at Loma Linda, Calif.
She worked for 10 years at the Obion County Public Health Dept. and was regional director for the Northwest Tennessee Regional Public Health Centers for 25 years. She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday school and had chaired many church committees and had been a member of the chancel choir for 54 years.
She was also a member of Athenian Review Club and was a former board member of American Cancer Society. She had been a recipient of several professional honors and awards, including the Tennessee Nurse in Action Award.
She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Chris Norris of Knoxville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Marilyn Gilliam of Union City, Mike and Lisa Gilliam of Knoxville and Russ and Chantelle Gilliam of Martin; her sister and brother-in-law, Laura and the Rev. John Trundle of Maryville; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
