George A. Deckard, a lieutenant of the Sevierville Police Department (serving since 1985) was promoted Saturday, October 1, when he answered his call to Heaven after a valiant battle with cancer.
George served not only his community but also his country as a United States Marine in the Vietnam War during the years 1967-1974, honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
George was preceded in death by his two brothers, Jerry and Arthur Deckard.
George leaves behind his loving wife and caregiver, Karen S. Roberts-Deckard, sons, Nick Deckard of US Navy in Norfolk, VA and Tobias Deckard along with fianc?e Tonya Lee and two children of Sevierville, TN, grandchildren Peyton Deckard and Julianna Deckard, parents James ?Art? and Beryl Deckard of Inverness, FL, Sisters and brother-in-law, Nadine Floud, Robbin Tibbetts and husband Kenny all of Inverness, FL, brother, Robert Deckard, of Indianapolis, IN, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Johnny W. Roberts and Shirley M. Roberts both of Sevierville, niece and nephews, Melanie Spencer, Jeff Smith and Daryl Tibbetts, all of Inverness, FL
Special relatives, Clarice and Hugh Duggan, Kim Ogle and fianc? Shawn Hudson. Along with a host of many wonderful, caring friends and law enforcement colleagues.
George is sadly missed by his constant K-9 companion ?Cha-Chi?
George, an avid Harley Enthusiast would like to extend an invitation for all his ?two-wheeled brothers and sisters to join in the funeral procession on Thursday morning.
Funeral service 7PM Wednesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Lt. Steve Rose of Sevierville Police Dept. Rev. Glenn Metts-Assoc. Pastor First Baptist Church and Bishop Laki P. Ka?ahumanu of Harvest Chapel, Maui, Hawaii, officiating. Family and friends will leave Atchley Funeral Home at 11AM Thursday to process to Middle Creek cemetery for graveside service and interment. Pallbearers will be the United States Marine Honor Guard and honorary pallbearers are Lt. Deckard?s shift of Sgt. Ron Atchley, Sgt. Ken Garner, Ofc. Graham Ownby, Ofc. Paul Laymon, Ofc. Jamie Roberts, Ofc. Preston Parrish, Ofc. Kevin Stone, Ofc. Mike Odom. The family will receive friends from 4-7PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
