U.S. Veteran Robert Denman “Denny” Pruitt, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 2nd with his sons at each side. He was born October 18, 1932, in Newport, TN, and grew up there and in Morristown. He graduated from Cocke County High School in 1951, lettering in football and basketball. He served in the Army Signal Corps in Korea, and in the Army Reserves in Newport and Knoxville. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing area streams and lakes, and the solitude of his garden. Bob maintained a public accounting practice in Knoxville for over 40 years. During retirement, he ushered UT football games, and UT men’s and women’s basketball games. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Bearden, serving as an usher and active Sunday School Member. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Boatman Clift. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Pruitt, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 7, 2008. Other survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Col. Mark Pruitt and Christal Pruitt of Niceville, FL and Lance and Mary Cullison Pruitt of Knoxville; grandchildren, Weston, Sarah, Hunter, Riley, and Carson; first cousins, Helen “Sissy” Finley of Mascot and Reverend Dana Boatman of Knoxville; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Calfee of Newport. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Central Baptist Church at Bearden, Knoxville, TN and from 9-10 am, Friday, September 5, 2008 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, followed by the funeral services at 10:00 am, with the Reverend Dana Boatman officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery with military honors.
