He was member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, served in U.S. Air Force, and a member of LaFollette Lodge F&AM. He was a retired insurance agent. Preceded in death by parents Edwin C. Carter, Sr. and Lola Myers Carter; infant brother, Richard D. Carter. Survived by wife of 50 years, Collene Fox Carter of Powell; daughter, Amy Carter of Knoxville; grandchildren, Autumn Collene and Seth Thomas Huddleston; brothers and sister-in-law, Edwin C. Jr. and Carrie Carter of Knoxville, John D. and Rita Carter of Knoxville; sister-in-law Dr. Joan Clark; brother-in-law Bill Fox and wife Suzanne. Funeral service will be at 7 pm Thursday at Gentry-Griffey Chapel with Rev. Edwin C. Carter, Jr. officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:15 am Friday at E. Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for an 11:30 am service with full Military Honors provided for by Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice in honor of C.C.U. Staff at St. Mary's, Oak Hill. Family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday at Gentry-Griffey Chapel.
