Marie Sweigart Miller
Died: 01-28-2005
Marie (Sweigart) Miller, age 80, of Newport went to be with her Lord Friday January 28, 2005 at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
Marie was born in Lancaster County, PA. She came to this area as the newly wed of Glenn Miller after WWII. They lived in the Rankin community where she raised their six children. During the illness and death of her father-in-law, Ulys Miller, she continued to operate Miller’s store in Rankin for a few years. Marie was a devoted wife, and mother who was well known and loved by all who knew her. She attended Rankin Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by parents, Stephen and Minnie Sweigart; son Garland Glenn ‘Gary’ Miller; grandson, Michael David Miller Jr; sister, Irene Klopp; brothers, Paul, Clarence and Samuel Sweigart.
Marie is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Glenn Miller; children, Gloria Tate and husband Lowell of Greeneville, Drucilla Phillips and husband ‘Butch’ of Newport, Shirley Manning and husband Darrell of Dandridge, Michael David Miller and wife Tina of Del Rio, William Harold ‘Bill’ Miller and Lisa of Newport; daughter-in-law, Pamela Miller Marshall of Newport; grandchildren, Stephen Tate, Lauren Tate Weems and husband Larry, Megan E. Phillips, Mickie D. Phillips, Justin B. Manning, Christopher R. Manning, Derek L. Miller and wife Heather, Dustin B. Miller and wife Jennifer, Jason W. Miller and wife Amanda, Staci L. Miller and Alicia D. Miller; great-grandchildren, Cory Lynn Miller and Emily Marie Miller; sister, Fern Strausser and husband Henry of Pennsylvania; sisters-in-law, Edna Miller Cody and husband Clayton, Mrs. Harold (Kathleen) Miller; stepchildren, Franklin Glenn Miller and Peggy Huth; step-grandchildren, Michael S. Phillips, Megan Beamer, Jeremy Hall, Kimberly Knight, Megan, Mathew and Spencer Householder and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 30, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday, January 31, 2005 at Rankin Baptist Church. At 2 p.m. Rev. Bill Russell and Rev. Glen Ball will officiate. Interment will follow in Rankin Church Cemetery. Mrs. Miller will lie in state from 1-2 p.m.
Brown Funeral Home has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Mrs. Marie Sweigart Miller.
