Mrs. Violetta Goss Findley, 91, a resident of Route 2, Belington, and more recently a resident of the Mansfield Place in Philippi for the past two years, departed life late Sunday evening, Dec. 10, 2006, in the care facility following an extended illness.
She was born May 16, 1915, at Elk City, a daughter of the late Jacob Daniel and Neelie Russell Goss.
On Jan. 11, 1937, she was married to Hartsel S. “Doc” Findley, who survives at their home near Belington.
In addition to her husband she is survived by four daughters, Jeanette “Pat” Booth of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Clara Louise McCauley of Philippi, Elanor Biller and husband, Cleve, of Morgantown and Sandra Sue Findley and husband, Larry, Kennedy of Belington. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Dan Booth, Cliff, Vickie and Mark McCauley, Chad and Lori Biller, Chaz and Nick Cavallo and Becky Tennant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death two sisters, Clara Goss and Daisy Richmond; four brothers, Ralph, Edward, Fred and Harry Goss. Also preceding her in death were two grandchildren, Jeff Booth and Katy Oakley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Findley attended the schools of Barbour County, was homemaker and a member of the Valley Bend Baptist Church near Belington.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joseph Bowan officiating. Interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery at Belington. Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Violetta Goss Findley.
