Andrew Gene Wilde, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, August 7, at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born May 5, 1918, in Newport to parents, Ernest and Swanie Brooks Wilde. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Union Carbide Corp./K25. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lee Spencer, on January 16, 1998. Survived by: wife of 58 years, Alma O’Dell Wilde of Oak Ridge; sons, Jerry Wilde of Newport and Stephen Wilde and wife, Jane Moore, of Knoxville; daughters, Diane L. Wilde of Nashville and Robin Wilde Spencer of Oak Ridge; brothers, Stanley Wilde and Wendell Wilde, both of Newport; sisters, Fern W. Strange of Morristown and Faye W. Ratcliff of Newport; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew and Kristi Wilde of Newport, Johnnie Lee Wilde and Kenneth Wilde of Knoxville, and Melissa Spencer, a student at TN Tech, and Natalie Spencer of Oak Ridge; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Sunday, August 9, at 3 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. David McPherson officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers were the men from Mr. Wilde’s Sunday school class. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Central Baptist Church, 130 Providence Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family received friends prior to the funeral service from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, was in charge.
