Roger Eugene Thomas, age 66, fought his last war and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 after a battle with melanoma and Agent Orange.
Roger was a decorated soldier serving in the U.S. Army as a Combat Infantryman with the 5th Division during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a former color guard and a member of the American Legion Post # 104, as well as a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a hardworking, honest man that enjoyed carpentry work. He is now with the great carpenter Jesus. He was a loving and devoted husband for 42 years and a wonderful father and grandfather. It can't be put into words what a good man the world has lost.
Roger was a lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church but said that he was saved by Jesus while in a fox hole in Vietnam.
Roger is preceded in death by his father, WWII veteran Edgar Thomas; sister, Caroline Thomas; step-son, Sgt. Paul W. Thomason, III- KIA in 2005; son-in-law, Travis Breeden and mother-in-law, Lucy Hurst. "They were waiting at the river for him".
He is survived by his; devoted wife of 42 years, Linda Gayle (Graves) Thomas; loving daughters, Christal Wells (Randall Wells), April Ogle (Sonny Ogle); mother, Sallie Thomas; grandchildren, Austin and Bryson Breeden, Ryan Wells, Tommy Gibson, Elise Ogle; step-grandchildren, Megan, Asher, Cora and Piper Thomason; brothers and sister, Buster, Gary and Susie Thomas; sister-in-law, Ruby Flynn.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. L. Sizemore officiating. Interment 2 PM Sunday in Knob Creek Cemetery. Military honors provided by American Legion Post # 104. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
