SAMS, BILLY B., 87 of Talbott, Tenn. passed away Thursday night at Life Care Center in Morristown. Mr. Sams was a member of Talbott Baptist Church for 60 years where he had served as trustee for many years. He was a lifelong farmer and was chosen Farmer of the Year in Hamblen County in 1969. He was given the Keep America Beautiful Farm Award in 1987. Preceded in death by his daughter, Patsy Sams Vaughn, he is survived by wife of 65 years, Letty Mae Sams; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Mary Lee Sams of Greeneville and Glenn and Anna Lou Sams of Morristown; grandchildren, Linda Vaughn of Marietta, Ga., Billy and Janet Vaughn of Knoxville, and Brian and Elizabeth Sams of Savannah, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law W.M. and Ruby Sams of Morristown and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in Stetzer's Morristown Chapel with The Revs. Kenneth W. Richey and Jerry Utsman officiating; interment following immediately in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Stetzer's in Morristown Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service. Stetzer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
