Gary Edward Thomas, 59, of Sevierville passed away suddenly on August 31, 2017. He was raised in Sevier County and graduated with the Class of 1976 from Sevier County High School. After graduating, he and his wife moved to Florida to start their family. He worked for Sprint Telecommunications as an NTAC Engineer for 25 years, but was also an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, golfing, and being out on the lake. Gary was a sports enthusiast and an avid fan of the Tennessee Vols. He was a soft-spoken man, but he always loved and provided for his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Edward Thomas; sister, Pamela Kaye McNabb; and mother-in-law, Sarah Jeanette Edwards.
Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sherry Thomas; son, Brandon Edward Thomas; daughter, Jandice Leann Thomas (Teresa and her children, Ryder and Liv); mother, Betty Jo Thomas; sisters-in-law, Joni Statham (Keith), and Catherine Brown (Steve Johnson); brothers-in-law, Jack Cole and Jaymes Alexander; special nieces and nephews, Judson and Sarah Statham, Aarin McNabb (Elizabeth), Eric McGaha, and Brooke McGaha; great-nieces and nephew, Sydney and Liam McNabb, and Taylor McGaha; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and his canine companion, Loki.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Inc., 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the Staff at Fresenius Medical Care Center, Fort Sanders Regional, and Tennessee Donor Services.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, September 5th with the funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Pastor David Zavona will be officiating. Family and friends will leave 10:30 AM Wednesday from Atchley Funeral Home in procession to Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens, Pigeon Forge for the graveside service and interment.
