She was born July 27, 1920 and raised in Union County, TN, and she was a member of First Red Bank Baptist Church, Sevierville. She was a loving mother and “grand mommy” (as she was known to all of her grandchildren). She was preceded in death by husbands Joseph B. McCarter (father of her children) and Henry F. Matthews, parents John E. and Lennie Monroe, sisters Edna Sharp, Edith Smith, and Trula Lody, brother John E. Monroe, Jr., son-in-law Art Johnson, and daughter-in-law Carol McCarter.
