Guy G. Darden, age 80 of Seymour, passed away suddenly Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Fort Sanders Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. He was born in Friendship, TN on January 13, 1932, to Gardener Earl and Cecil Darden. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Zelma Ione Darden (nee Barton) of Manassas, VA; his sisters, Anne Smith, Marion “Sally” Farrow; twin brother Gay, Jimmy and Earl, Jr.
Mr. Darden is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Carol Darden (nee McFall) of Sevierville; sister, Rosemary Dennis, of Seymour, TN; his five children, Kathryn and her husband Bruce Brandt of Gainesville, VA, Steve Darden, his wife Prairie Dawn and granddaughter, Padma of Sante Fe, NM; Bonnie Darden of Falls Church, VA, Guy and his wife Daphne Darden of Nokesville, VA and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Luke, Miranda and Matia, James Pierce Darden of Arlington, VA, Tim, Kimberly, Josh and Rachel Fitzgerald of Norfolk, VA; and a number of other relatives and loved ones. He was a faithful attendant at Valley View Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church Building Fund, 2219 Little Cove Road, Sevierville, TN 37876.
He retired as a 1st Sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1974, and then worked as a Communications Officer for various Agencies in Washington, DC. He finally fully retired in 1994 to enjoy his favorite hobbies of hunting and fishing. He was also active in Square Dance and was the National Square Dance Committee Chairman and Board Member.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, with funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Dr. Preston Joslin officiating. Per Sgt. Darden’s wishes he will be interred at 1 p.m. Wednesday February 22, 2012, in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
