He was of the Baptist faith, formerly employed with T.V.A., Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WW II. He was preceded in death by parents; three brothers and one sister. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Harvey Leon and Karen McCarter of Danville, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Diane and Tony Peters of Providence, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kristi Coleman, Anthony Scott McCarter and Timothy Peters; great-grandchildren, Carleigh Coleman and Andrew Scott McCarter; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at Walker's Valley Cemetery for graveside service and interment, Rev. James Smiley officiating.
