Ray Glenn Branam, age 83 of Gatlinburg, TN, passed away Friday, January 9, 2009.
Born and raised in the Greenbriar area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, he graduated from Pittman Center High School in 1943. He served with the U.S Marine Corps during WW II with the 968th Platoon, 1st Amphibious, Charlie Company. He retired from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Service. While at the park, he wrote a manual for forestry fire fighting. He was a long time member of Gatlinburg Fire Department, serving for over 50 years, 15 years as Assistant Chief for the volunteers. He contributed to the “Essentials of Fire Fighting” training manual by the Fire Service Trainging Association. He also helped organize the Pittman Center, TN Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a member of the Webbs Creek Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence M. and Nora Price Branam; brothers Donald and Fred Eugene “Buck” Branam; and sisters Juanita Sue Webb and Margaret Ann Green.

Daughters and Sons-in-law: Dorothy & Lee Whaley of Marietta, GA; Judy & Wendell Huskey of Pittman Center, TN; Linda & A.C. Cooper of Knoxville, TN; and Brenda & Dana Haynes of Seymour, TN

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Gatlinburg Fire Department, or the Pittman Center Fire Department.
Funeral service 7 PM Monday in the chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with A.C. Cooper officiating. Family and friends will meet for a graveside service and interment 11 AM Tuesday at McCarter-Williams Cemetery.
