Was born on March 20, 1921, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to Fred and Belva McCarter. He enlisted in to the U.S. Navy serving on a destroyer the U.S.S. Young shortly after Pearl Harbor. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, music, dancing, and jokes. He is survived by wife, Mary (Lee); daughters, Lanette Reed of Roseburg; Linda McCarter of Scottsdale, Arizona; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and nine great great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Roseburg National Cemetery off Harvard Boulevard. There will be a potluck reception following the service.
