George R. Price, 83, of Athens, Tenn., died Monday, May 29, 2006, at his residence. He was born in Richardson Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains on June 30, 1922, the third son of Dallas Hicks (the local mail carrier) and Nora Roberts Price. At age 17 George volunteered for the Navy where he received training as an aviation electrician. He achieved the rank of instructor, and spent World War II performing in-flight testing of the electrical systems of Air Corps bombers flying from Litchfield Air Base in Arizona. He married Nita Maples on Aug. 3, 1940, and she remained the love of his life until her death on July 10, 1992. The couple had one daughter, Carole Anita Price.He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and beloved wife.Survivors include his daughter, Carole Anita Price of Knoxville; numerous friends and associates. Interment will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Alder Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Sevierville.Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Optimist International Foundation, Care of the Optimist Club of Athens, P.O.
