Leroy Cecil Maples, age 77 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Monday, December 18, 2006, at Fort Sanders-Sevier Medical Center. He graduated Pi Beta Phi High School and the University of Tennessee in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator in Korea during 1951-1952. He taught school for one year in Yulee, Florida, and was a teacher and basketball coach at Pi Beta Phi and Pigeon Forge Junior High schools for a total of 23 years. Leroy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge for 50 years and had worked as a brick mason on the present church as it was being built on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. He and his wife owned and operated the old Pigeon River Court for five years and then the Maples Motor Inn in Pigeon Forge from 1972 to 1995. He lived in the house he built at 3516 Householder Street for 46 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Melinda Lee Maples who died in May, 2006, parents Pearl and Russell Maples, and brothers James and Jack Maples.

Funeral service 7 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church, Pigeon Forge with Rev. W. W. Cope and Rev. Russell Maples officiating. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Friday in Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery for graveside service and interment with Rev. Dennis Maples officiating.
