John retired in 1998 from Overnight Transport where he had worked for 25 years. John was affectionately known by his Cleveland friends as the "Coin Man". He was a loving husband, father, papaw, and a friend to everyone he met. With his big heart he touched many people in his life. John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ethel Dodgen Whaley. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, JoAnn Waldrop Whaley; son, Russell Whaley and wife Tara, Christopher Whaley and wife Donna; grandchildren, Ashton "Whistle"and Hunter Whaley; brother, Jack Whaley and wife Kathy; nieces, Stacey, Kelly, and Whitney; nephews, Chris and J.J.; brother-in-law, Ken Waldrop and wife Debbie. Service will be 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Rawlings Funeral Chapel with the eulogy being delivered by friends. A procession will leave Rawlings Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, December 18 for a committal service at Valley View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 17 at Rawlings Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held for John at 6:30 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 at East Lake Church of God in Chattanooga, TN. Condolences may be conveyed to the family through our website.
