WORTHINGTON, KATHERINE RUTH " SIS " 74, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012. She was born November 22, 1937 in Briceville, TN, the daughter of Sam and Edna Housley Worthington. Her father was a coal miner in Anderson County and her mother a cook for many years and a homemaker. In 1957 her parents moved the family to Ohio to find work after the coal mines shut down. In 1971 they moved back to Tennessee and settled in Oak Ridge. In 1984 Kathy began working at NHC Health Care as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She retired in 1999, after 14 years of service, because of declining health. She became interested in her new computer and found a global network of information and friends. She was a member of "Pal talk", which is a group of Elvis Presley fans. She loved this new world on the internet and friends worldwide. She was great cook and loved working in her yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Stanley Worthington who passed away in 2001 and niece Sandy Russell. She is survived by sister, Lavada Worthington with whom she lived; sister, Audrey Jean Hedlund and husband Ken of Council Bluffs, IA; brothers, Tom Worthington and friend, Wanda Reinhardt of Ravenna, OH, Carl Worthington and wife Sue of Crossville, and Roger Worthington and fiancée Debra Johnson of Seymour; nephews, David Hedlund, Tom R. Worthington, Jim Worthington, Chris Worthington, and Aaron Worthington; niece, Beverly Russell; special cousins, Ellen Castro and husband Andy, Ann Rehak and husband Dave, Linda Bosley, Mary Charles Pride, and Arnold Craig and wife Gracie; special friends, Georgia Shepherd, Sharon Jefferson and husband Robert, Sharon Bryson and husband Sonny, and Jeanne Webster. The family wishes to thank Kerry Trammell of NHC Health Care and the Wing 1 nursing staff for the care they gave to our sister during her stay at the Oak Ridge facility. Also thanks to Dan Pope of Visiting Angels Caregivers. A special thanks to Caregiver, Misty Omayer who did a wonderful job of taking care of our sister and thanks to Dr. Ann Carter and Dr. Michael Dimeo for their care all these years of Kathy. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Jason Brackin officiating.
