Donald Joe Maynard, MSGT (USAF – Ret), age 75, of Powell, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 14, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was a native of Blount County. Don proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force over twenty years retiring meritoriously in 1970. The Vietnam Service Medal was among the many decorations awarded during his honorable service. After his retirement, he spent twenty-two years at Howard Johnsons as maintenance superintendent. He was also a member of the Refrigeration Services Engineer Society. Don was a loving, caring father to Paul, Jim, and Lisa Maynard, always putting their needs above his own. His endearing love and support will be greatly missed by his children, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Halen “Monk” Maynard; mother, Laura Maynard Culvahouse; and brother, Charles H. Maynard, Jr. His living family includes his children Lisa Maynard Cate of Knoxville, Paul Robert Maynard of Knoxville, and Jimmy Douglas Maynard of Florida; the mother of his children, Clara Jo McFall of Knoxville; sisters, Ann “John” Conner of Knoxville and Betty Ruth McKenzie of Maryville; brother, Robert T “Barbara” Mathis of Maryville; sister in law, Helen Allison Maynard of Crossville; grandchildren, Ben Maynard and wife Isha and Andrew Cate; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the nurses at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice for the loving care given our father. Family and friends will gather to share in our “Daddy’s” life at Miller Funeral Home in Maryville from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Maryville with full military honors at 12:30 PM, Rev. Harry Sherrer officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to St. Mary’s Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938.
