August 18, 1920 - November 20, 2015
Resided in Sevierville, TN
Jean White, age 95 of Sevierville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 20, 2015. Waiting with a smile at the gates of Heaven was the love of her life, her husband, Elben to greet her. Together again in the presence of the Lord.
Saved at the age of 10 and a faithful member of First Baptist Church Sevierville until her health began to fail. She gained great strength in life through her faith. Quoting scripture and poems from her childhood days of the Sun Beams Sunday School class even in her last hours gave her great joy. A selfless soul, always seeing the best in others; beautiful, loving, patient, gentle, genuinely kind, asking for little and giving so much.
Jean and Elben were married May 7, 1938. Making their home in Sevierville where they raised two children, who will tell you today that they had the most wonderful parents in the world.
While Elben worked at Alcoa, Jean raised the children, worked the farm and kept the home. Hard work was what she knew and she relished in it.
A devoted and loving mother, she was very proud of her family, especially her three granddaughters whom she loved beyond measure. Jean loved family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She shared Elben's love of gardening and it was evident in her cooking. She would spend hours cooking and preparing the families favorite meal and enjoying the smile on their faces as they ate. Cooking was her passion in her younger years and she was good at it - even winning a Campbell's Soup Recipe Contest and having her recipe published. But above all, her family was her most prized accomplishment. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Anyone who truly knew her appreciated her quick wit and sense of humor which was evident even her last days. She made us laugh, even through the tears. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Born to Elijah and Sallie Mae Barker Turner on August 18, 1920, the seventh of eight children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elben, parents, infant son James White, son-in-law Harley D. Lewis, siblings Gola, Estelle, Irene, Ilo, Dorothy, Martha and Jimmy Turner.
Left to mourn her passing are daughter and son-in-law Carolyn & Bill Rogers, son David White, grandchildren Sherri and Jeff Kirby, Sara and Logan Berry, Laura Michelle White and friend Matt Dunn, great grandchildren AJ and Brooks Berry. Former daughter-in-law Darlene Lively, many nieces and nephews and special friends: Jimmie Faye Trotter, Don and Patsy Farmer, John and Linda Douglas, Joe and Gail Thomas, Charlotte Proffitt, Wanda Rolen and Debbie Brock.
A special thank you to the entire staff of Fort Sanders-Sevier Nursing Home for their love and care of Jean and the entire family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Sevierville Building Fund, 317 Parkway, Sevierville, Tennessee 37862 or to the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Peggy Sharp, 939 Alder Branch Road, Sevierville, Tennessee 37876.
