Wayne E. Ledford, of Quakertown and formerly of Philadelphia, PA, and Sevierville, TN, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at his home. He was 91.
He was the husband of the late Anna E. (Rhoads) Ledford who died June 15, 2007.
Born in Sevierville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Fidella and Haley (Roberts) Ledford. He was a 1941 graduate of Pfeiffer Junior College (now Pfeiffer University), Misenheimer, N.C., and a 1943 graduate of the Merchant Marines Academy, Kings Point, N.Y..
A U. S. Merchant Marines Veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Wallace Willard Keller American Legion Post No. 242, Quakertown, Pa. Mr. Ledford worked as the power house engineer for Philadelphia State Hospital (Byberry), Philadelphia, Pa., for 37 1/2 years until retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ, Perkasie, Pa., and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Sevierville, Sevierville, Tenn.
Mr. Ledford was a member of the Frankford Masonic Lodge No. 292, Philadelphia.
He is survived by a son, Wayne Roy Ledford, of Quakertown, Pa.; and a sister, Ioa Sharp, of Pigeon Force, Tenn. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine A. Ledford, in February 2011, and 11 brothers and sisters.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Services to be held Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ, 615 East Walnut Street, Perkasie, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Sevierville, 214 Cedar Street, Sevierville, TN 37862, or to Pfeiffer University, 48380 U.S. HWY 52, Misenheimer, NC 28109.
