HICKEY, MARJORIE N. "SUSIE" - age 87, died Monday Feb. 9, 2009 at UT Medical Center. Born March 23, 1921 in Lake City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sevierville, a graduate from Benham, KY. High School where she excelled in basketball and was a football queen. In her younger years she enjoyed, square dancing, softball, hiking and bowling. She worked at Sevierville Post Office from the early 1940's until she retired in 1980. She was reputed to be the first female walking mail carrier in the U.S. She continued to walk daily until her illness. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dora and Joe Hickey: sister, and brother-in-law, Lois and Homer Hardin: brother, Homer B. Hickey: brother-in-law, T.L. Dabney: nephew, James C. Hardin and grand nephew, Jeff Hardin. She is survived by, sister, Frankie Dabney of FL; nephew, Jack Hardin, and wife Dortha Faye and their children, Michelle Hardin, Jim Hardin and Kevin Hardin; niece, Sandra Thompson and husband Harry of Alaska; nephew, B.L. Dabney and wife Kit of FL; niece, Linda Benware and husband Allan of FL; sister-in-law, Hanna Hickey; several grand nieces and nephews of FL and Knoxville. Special friends to the Mack Marshall Family, Ann Emert, Susan Williams and neighbors of Peninsula Road. Special thanks to the staff at UT Medical Center. The family request in lieu of flowers, donation be made to the First United Methodist Church 214 Cedar St. Sevierville TN 37862, the Alzheimers Assoc. of East Tenn. 2200 Sutherland Ave. Suite H 102 Knoxville, TN 37919 or the charity of your choice. Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be held Monday at 5:30 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Sevierville. The Rev. Bobby Ely will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 5:30 on Monday at the church. Rawlings Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
