Maryville man killed in Alabama traffic crash
A 79-year-old Maryville man was killed in single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning on I-59 in St. Claire County, Ala.
Albert B. Reed, 79, Maryville, was pronounced dead by the St. Claire County Coroner Dennis Russell. Two passengers in his vehicle, James Reed, 82, Maryville, and Tommy McMillan, 62, Louisville, were reported to be injured in the crash.
According to an accident information release from the Birmingham Post of the Alabama Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 12:05 a.m. Saturday. Albert Reed was the driver of the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis that crashed.
"His vehicle left the road and struck a tree on Interstate 59, near the community of Argo, about 15 miles north of Birmingham," Russell said.
Russell said Albert Reed's cause of death was determined to be "blunt force trauma." James Reed and McMillan were both taken to St. Vincent's East hospital in Birmingham, Ala. An operator at the hospital said they were unable to release their conditions.
According to the accident information release, the crash is still under investigation by Alabama Highway Patrol Troopers Robert Reid and Adam Ezekiel.
