ROSS, MATTYE KAY LANE WALLACE - age 96 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at her home, Monday, August 31, 2009. Mrs. Ross was of the Baptist faith. She worked many years at Kimball's Jewelers, downtown, in the engraving department. In later years, she warmly greeted customers at K-Mart on Kingston Pike. In addition, she served hundreds of hours as a volunteer in the Activities Department at Hillcrest West Nursing Home. Mattye's interests included reading novels, flower gardening, theatre-going, and attending the Kentucky Derby-the first weekend of every May-for a total of 58 times, a record of which she was very proud. Mattye's great sense of humor and her love of life were admired by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Velma Donovan of Concord, and Emma Courtney of Knoxville; brothers, Albert Lane, who died in infancy, and Carl Lane; son, Lynn Franklin Wallace of Lenoir City; parents, William Pless Lane and Mary Matilda Caughron Lane; husbands, Max Wallace and Theodore John Ross. She is survived by her devoted caregiver and son, John Erick "Ted" Ross of Knoxville; her beloved sister, Mary Kate Franklin of Corryton (formerly of Concord); special cousins, J.C. Lane of White Pine, and Rev. Earl Lane of Sevierville. Affection and appreciation for their kindness and assistance goes to Mattye's nieces, Glenna Beeler of Clarkrange, Emy Inklebarger of Corryton, and Mary Ellen Roberson of Knoxville; special friends: Shirley Anderson and Judy Pitts, both of Knoxville. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Earl Lane officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers: Kyle Beeler, Harold Green, Jimmy Inklebarger, Carl Lane, Jr., Ricky Roberson and Ray Varnell. The family will receive friends 12:30-2:00 P.M. Thursday, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. www.rosemortuary.com
