WILLIAMS, MICHAEL DAVID - age 59, died at UT hospital on Saturday, April 8, 2006. All those who knew him loved him. He was born on November 2, 1946 in Newberry, SC, and has been a resident of Sevier County for over 40 years. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Forestry in 1974. He served with the US Army for 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. Mike worked for 30 years with the Tennessee Division of Forestry as an Area Forester for Sevier, Knox, and Anderson Counties. Twice he was named Forester of the Year. He won a 1996 Award for Outstanding Achievement as a Governmental Employee, he developed the Tree City USA program in the Knoxville area, and served on the Sevierville Tree Board. He wrote extensive reference material about controlling forest fires, the All-Season Pocket Guide to Identifying Common Tennessee Trees, and a larger reference book that he recently completed on all-season tree identification for the Eastern US is scheduled to be published next Spring. He deeply enjoyed wood crafting, music, and being outside with his beloved trees. Mike served as a deacon and was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church in Sevierville. He was the music director there for 20 years, and his service and faith touched every corner of the building and all it's member's hearts. He is survived by: his wife of 30 years, Nancy Rogers Williams; son, Roger Williams; mother, Bobbie Jo Williams; sister, Rosanne Broome; and brothers, Joe, Steve, and Phil Williams; as well as numerous others from an extended family and a host of friends and coworkers. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray F. Williams. Services will be held at the Seymour United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 11th. Family will receive friends from 6-8pm, with a celebration service held at 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts are welcomed at the Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, or the Gideon Bible Program. The family would like to extend deepest thanks to all those offering prayers and support during his illness and at this sad time. We rejoice that he is free and home with God.
