KNIGHT, FELIX EUGENE - age 84 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Felix was born on April 2, 1922 in Dayton, Tennessee to the late Floyd and Marie Conner Knight. He was a longtime member of Donelson First Baptist Church in Donelson, TN. where he served as a deacon. He was a former member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville and was a member of First Baptist Church, Concord, Tn. at the time of his death. Felix graduated from Rhea County High School in 1940 and attended Carson Newman College from 1940 to 1942. He then attended the university of Tennessee from 1947 to 1950, where he earned a B.S. in Dairying and an M.S. in Animal Husbandry. Felix's work with the Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service began in Maury County and continued in Rutherford County. In both counties he enjoyed working with 4-H boys and girls, encouraging them and watching them become useful and outstanding citizens in their communities. He then spent twenty-three years in Davidson County as Extension Leader, supervising staff members of in 4-H, Home Demonstration and low income nutrition programs. He also worked with the farmers in the production of livestock, field crops and horticulture. Mr. Knight received the Distinguished Service Award from the National County Agents Association and the Man of the Year Award from the Tennessee Association of Agricultural Agents. During his career, he was vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Davidson County Farm Bureau, served on the board of directors of the Oscar Farris Agricultural Museum and served as president of the Farmers Club and the Tennessee Agricultural Specialist. Felix was also a board member of the U.T. Retirees Association. While in Nashville, he was a member of the Nashville Rotary Club, the Al Menah Temple and the McWhirtersville Lodge. Felix enjoyed playing golf, softball, baseball and was an avid boater. He worked as a volunteer for the Sara Lee LPGA and the BellSouth PGA tournaments in Nashville. Felix was also an avid "Big Orange" fan. He and his wife Helen were member of the Knoxville Quarterback Club, Big Orange Tip-off Club and football season ticket holders. He enjoyed many years attending Volunteer football games and he and his wife Helen loved to travel, traveling in all fifty states and many foreign countries. Felix was preceded in death by his parents, brother Conner Knight and sister Lucille Woodfin. Felix is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Helen Humphreys Knight; sisters and brothers in law Emma and Bill Atchley of Sevierville and Mildred and Howard Cockrum of Knoxville; sister in law Mary Knight of Chattanooga; brother in law Ken Woodfin of South Pittsburg; brother in law and sister in law Jack and Judy Humphreys of Maryville and many nieces and nephews for whom he was a very special uncle. Funeral service 7:00 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Steve Peek officiating. Family and friends will meet at the Adair Dr. entrance to Lynnhurst Cemetery by 10:45 a.m. Tuesday for a 11:00 a.m. interment service. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
