KIRBY, CLAY ARNOLD (RED) - age 81 of the Thorngrove Community, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, December 4, 2006. He retired in 1989 from Lay Packing Company after 39 years of service. A veteran of the Navy, he served in the Pacific aboard the USS Crowley during World War II. He was a member of Thorngrove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by: son, Gary Kirby; parents, Oscar and Iva Underwood Kirby; brother, Oscar Kirby, Jr.; sisters, Elizabeth White Byrd and Mildred Wayland; half-brother, Afton Kirby. Survived by: wife of 58 years, Reba Lee Kirby; half-sisters, Lorene Denton and Annette Huffaker; half-brothers, Loren B. Kirby and Wayne Kirby; children and spouses, Jerry and Kay Kirby, Carolyn and Larry Spires, Clay and Joyce Kirby, Cheryl and Fred Williams; grandchildren and spouses, Joy and Shane Gregg, Adam Kirby, Courtney and Julie Spires, Brent and Erica Fawver, Wade Spires, Chelsea Williams; great-grandchildren, Zavin Gregg, Zachary Erbaugh and Ava Spires; special niece and spouse, Shirley and Raymond Underwood; great niece and spouse, Michelle and Jeff Joslyn and son, Zachary; nephew, Arnold Cate; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 7 pm Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in the chapel at Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Tatum officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am Thursday at Thorn Grove Cemetery for an 11 am interment. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Wednesday at Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 523-4999.
