Robert Benjamin "R. B." Proffitt, age 81, died December 30, 2015, at Brookdale Camino del Sol, Sun City West, Arizona.
He was born May 9, 1934, in Sevier County, Tennessee where he grew up until joining the United States Navy May 29, 1951. He served honorably and was discharged May 11, 1955, with over three years of foreign and sea service. His decorations included the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He served aboard the USS Monterey and the USS Wright.
For more than 50 years R.B. owned his own tractor/trailer and was contracted through the years with Lyon, Gabriel and Atlas Van Lines. He was recognized with a Safety Award for having driven one million miles without an accident. He and his wife, Marty, traveled extensively to China, Russia, UK, Europe, Panama and made numerous trips to Mexico.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mayford and Grace Joslin
Survived by his wife, Mrs. Marty Miller Proffitt of Arizona; son Robert Benjamin Proffitt, Jr., daughter Deborah Ann Proffitt both of Pennsylvania; step daughter Andrea Renea Bugess, step son William Christopher Rohas both of California; brothers Preston (Kathleen) Joslin, Dennis (Carole) Joslin, and Calvin (Paula) Joslin all of Sevierville, Tennessee.
His cremated remains were returned to Sevierville where graveside services will be conducted at Alder Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, 11 a.m., August 27, 2016. (Atchley Funeral Home)
