He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mildred Proffitt; brother, Dale Proffitt. He is survived by his wife, Norma Proffitt; son, Payton Proffitt, Jr.; stepson, Dale Turner and wife, Sonja; stepdaughter, Sherry Turner; two grandchildren, Maisie and Lindsey Hazelwood; brother, Carrol L. Proffitt; nephew, Richie Morgan all of Newport; also several cousins and other family. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2005 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Junior Gorrell and Rev. Robert Ball officiating. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday December 5, 2005 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
