Lucy Melissa Huffaker Bailey, 89, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Sevier County Health Care Center in Sevierville.
On December 9, 1914 Lucy was born to the late George and Virgie Johnson Huffaker. On October 20, 1934 Lucy married the love of her life, Fred William Bailey.
Lucy was a long time member of Beech Springs Baptist Church, Secretary and Treasurer of the Women’s Mission Union for many years and retired from Carr’s Dry Goods after 16 years of service.
Besides her loving husband and parents, her son, Bobby Bailey; sister, Katherine Henry and her brothers preceded Lucy in death.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Michelle Bailey Poole and husband Ronnie of Straw Plains; grandson, Frederick Bailey of Kodak; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Bailey of Kodak; special sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ben (Gladys) Whaley of Dandridge, Bill (Beatrice) Harmon of Kodak, Anna Ruth Lindsey of New Market. Besides the immediate family, a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and special friends will miss Lucy.
Service will be 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Beech Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Vittatoe officiating. The family will meet at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 16 at Beech Springs Cemetery for interment. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at Beech Springs Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Beech Springs Baptist Church.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Sevier County Health Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beech Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, Douglas Dam Road, Kodak, TN.
