July 11, 1922 - July 29, 2017 Born in Sevier County, TN Resided in Sevierville, TN Laverne Ida Newman, age 95 of Sevierville went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday July 29, 2017. In the 1940’s, Laverne began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in the Jones Cove community. She retired from the Sevier County School System after many years of teaching. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph W. Newman, son Jimmy Newman, parents, Crockett and Josie Howard, brothers, Earnest Howard and Hugh Howard, grandson-in-law, Jason Shults. Survivors: Sons and daughters-in-law: Robert and Rita Newman, David and Virginia Newman Granddaughter: Tina Shults Great Grandchildren: J.D. Shults, Delaney Shults, Dylan Miller Sister: Lucille Gregory Special thanks to Joan McCoig, Sue Baker, Jack Howard, and UT Hospice. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Monday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Interment 10 AM Tuesday in Bethel Cemetery.
