Ernie Glen Holbert, age 83 of Knoxville, TN formerly of Maryville, TN, went home Tuesday July 3, 2007.
He was retired from Krogers where he was the produce manager for 26 years. Ernie was also a 15 year member of the Union Hall of Alcoa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a SFC in World War II, he was also retired from the Army National Guard. Ernie was a member of the New Providence Lodge, # 128F A.M. , Masonic Lodge, in Maryville,TN.
A loving father, friend, husband and lifelong love of bluegrass music Ernie played the mandolin, and performed vocals. He was a former member of the groups, “Maryville Grass” and “Crossroads Grass.” He has performed numerous places throughout the East Tennessee area including, the welcome center on hwy 66. Ernie loved to square dance especially at the Junction.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Holbert, brother, Raymond Holbert, sisters, Bess Whaley, Anna Welch, parents, Amos and Dicie Holbert.

Funeral service 11AM Friday in Atchley’s Seymour Chapel with Rev. Arthur Wayne. Interment will follow in Boyd’s Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lester Savage, Henry Loveday, Rex Welch, Ray Jones Ryan Loveday, Chris Loveday, Terry Ridenour, Jason Ridenour.
