Robert B. Hodge obituary
- [S4] Knoxville News-Sentinel (Tennessee), 11 Oct 2004.
HODGE, WILLIAM MACK - age 80, began shouting "Amen! And Amen!" at the Gates of Heaven, at 7:00 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2004 after a mercifully brief struggle with esophageal cancer. Mack was a beloved husband, daddy and papaw. He was a Veteran of World War II, and retired after 43 years from Lay's Packing Company. A devoted Christian and long-time member of Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church, Mack looked forward to seeing and talking with Jesus.
Waiting to greet Mack were those who preceded him: infant daughter, Janice; parents, Robert Bruce (Roy) and Laura Katherine Hodge; brothers, Harvey and Ernest Branch and Ray Hodge; and sister, Geneva Popejoy.
Remaining to celebrate Mack's life are: beloved and devoted wife of 60 years, Freddie Mae (Henderson) Hodge, Knoxville; daughter, Phyllis Hodge, Knoxville; son Richard Hodge, Nashville; daughter and favorite son-in-law Susan and Eugene Whaley, Morristown; son and favorite daughter-in-law, Roy and Cheryl Hodge, Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and David Mills, Halls. Mack also regretfully leaves: five grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
Special gratitude is extended to the Adventa Hospice, especially to April O'Neil, Cindy Johnson and social worker Kay Coffey. Also, thank you to everyone who supported the family with prayers and visits. Your love was a great help.
A Celebration Memorial will be 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Mynatt Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Romines, Rev. Charlie Reynolds and Steve Grindstaff. Family and friends will meet, 9:45 a.m., Thursday, Asbury Cemetery for interment service at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund; 510 East Oklahoma Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917.
