GORDON THORNTON, age 69, of Newport, TN, beloved father, papaw, and friend went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, April 25, 2004. He was loved by many and will be missed. Gordon was retired from General Electric Corporation’s Morristown, TN plant, where he worked for many years as an electrician and robotics technician. He was an avid softball player and played in numerous leagues around the East TN area.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Phyllis Holt Thornton; mother, Georgia E. Huff; father, Slover (Tobe) Thornton; brother, Bob Thornton ;father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Sarah Holt; and nephew, Wayne (Archie) Holt.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Teresa Thornton Jarnagin and her husband Robert (Byron); his two beloved grandchildren, Rob and Sarah Jarnagin, all of Newport; sisters, Jo Ann Patrick of Dandridge, Pat Wright and Toby Little of Lexington, TN; aunt, Johnnie Ellis of Knoxville; brother, Guy Huff and wife Norma of Dandridge; sister-in-law, Carol Thornton of Blytheville, Arkansas; brothers in law, Will Chaney of Sevierville; Ken Holt and his wife, Sharon of Newport; nephews, Mickey Thornton of Arkansas, Floyd and Bobby Patrick of Knoxville, Kenny Holt of Newport, and Nickey Darrell Chaney of Sevierville; nieces, Bobbie Lynn Louthain of Arkansas, Pamela Patrick of Dandridge, Andrea Potts and Jill Henry of Dandridge, Kathy Proffitt of Sevierville and Audrey Lamb of Alabama; many great nieces and nephews and special friends, Ken Rutherford, Ronnie Coleman, Horace and Brenda Frady, John Clark and all the maintenance crew form GE; special caregiver, Lisa Maner.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Reverend John Clark officiating. Graveside interment services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Chestnut Hill Cemetery.. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Wade Lane, Ken Rutherford, Ronnie Coleman, Danny Miller, W. D. Henry and Horace Frady.
