Clarence Ray Henderson, 93, of Sevierville, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012, at his home. He was born June 27, 1919, to the late Mell and Myrtle Henderson.
Mr. Henderson was a member of the Sevierville Church of God. Until last year, he was employed by Henderson Produce Shop which is owned by his son, Marvin. He was a farmer all his adult life. He loved planting, harvesting, and all things associated with farming. In his early years, he was an avid trapper, squirrel and rabbit hunter, and ginseng gatherer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mell and Myrtle Henderson; daughter, E. Sue Henderson Scott; brothers, Wallace and A.J. Henderson; sisters, Zelma Vance and Ella Tucker; two grandchildren, Amanda and Timothy Henderson; one great-grandson, Wesley Nash.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Bertha E. Henderson; children, Velda R. Price, Clarence Henderson, Jr. (Wanda Sue), Rev. Dwight Henderson (Martha Sue) of Cleveland, TN and Marvin Henderson (Norma Jean); sister, Bobbie Dell Manual of Solway, TN; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sevierville Church of God, 1018 Oak Street, Sevierville, TN 37862 or Caris Healthcare, 816 Middle Creek Road, Sevierville, TN 37862.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 18 at Sevierville Church of God. The family will also receive friends 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Kenneth Cook and Rev. James McFalls will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Shiloh Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
