Benny Ray Thomas, age 60 of Seymour passed away suddenly on August 19, 2001. He was born September 7, 1940, the 8th child of James E. and Vira M. Thomas. He served in the U.S. Army as Corporal. He was an employee of Norfolk Southern Railway for over 30 years. He was a Christian and a charter member of St. Paul Nondenominational Church in Seymour where he served as an Elder and trustee. He was a good man who was always ready to offer a helping hand to his family, church, and his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents James & Vira Thomas, and a son Bryan Scott Thomas all of Seymour, brothers Jimmy Thomas, Jackie Thomas, and Eddie Thomas, sisters, Ima Jean Justus, Lois Thomas, and Kathalene Thomas.

Benny Ray had many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral service 7:30pm Tuesday August 21, 2001 in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. George W. Ott, Jr., Rev. Michael Justus, and Rev.Agnes Gilbertson officiating. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Wednesday August 22, 2001 in Chilhowee cemetery on Boyd’s Creek Rd. in Seymour for interment. Pallbearers will include, Charles Johnson, Clet Ervin, Ernest Justus, Beecher Berry, Larry Glaspie, and Lonnie Prater. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul Church, P.O. Box 907, Seymour, TN 37865. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home.
