CHANDLER, MARY KATHERINE - was born to the union of the late Calvin Walker, Sr. and the late Jannie Kimbrough Walker on December 17, 1926, and peacefully departed this life January 24, 2009 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Preceded in death by, husband, Joe Ben Chandler, Jr.; brothers, Calvin Walker, Norman Walker and James Walker. She attended the Knoxville City Schools and Tuskegee Institute. She taught elementary school in Boyd's Creek Community for several years. Faithful and dedicated member at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church until her health declined. Mary Katherine served in various capacities at the church including the Willing Workers, Kitchen Committee, Class Leader, Deaconess, Choir member and Floral Committee. She leaves to cherish her memory, devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy (Frank) Gethers and Sharon (David) Rucker; granddaughters, Dartrice (Mark) White and Shanea Gethers. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Fort Sanders Hospital Specialty Select and NHC Nursing Home at Fort Sanders. The family will receive friends Wednesday January 28th 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Funeral services 1:00 p.m., Rev. Dr. Eric Leake officiating. Interment Highlnd South Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at the home of David and Sharon Rucker 3753 Catalpa Avenue.
