Maryville Marine drowns in Arizona lake A U.S. Marine Corps lance corporal from Maryville drowned near Yuma, Ariz., on Sunday morning, according to a story in the Yuma Sun newspaper. Alan Dewar, 24, drowned in an area known as Quechan Lakes. Dewar was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, where he worked as a Harrier engine mechanic. According to the newspaper account, Dewar and a friend were fishing at Quechan Lakes. The friend reported that Dewar had tried to swim to a sandbar but was unable to make it and disappeared underwater. Funeral services are scheduled Saturday at 7 p.m. at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville. Smith Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
