LCPL Trevor A. Dewar age 24 of Maryville, stationed in Yuma, Arizona, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009. He was an Active Duty Aircraft Engine Mechanic serving in the United States Marine Corps. Preceded in death by: Grandparents, E.C. & Imogene Holbert and Albert Dewar. Survivors include: Mother, Nancy S. (Dewar) Holbert; Father, Robert A. Dewar; Sisters, Melissa Ann Martin of Yorba Linda, CA and Tiffany E. Orbesen of Alcoa, TN; Nephew, Zachary James Martin; Niece, Jessica Kaytlynn Martin; Grandmother, Betty Gibson of Inverness, FL; many aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Freeman Tomlin officiating. Maryville Marine drowns in Arizona lake
A U.S. Marine Corps lance corporal from Maryville drowned near Yuma, Ariz., on Sunday morning, according to a story in the Yuma Sun newspaper.
Alan Dewar, 24, drowned in an area known as Quechan Lakes.
Dewar was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, where he worked as a Harrier engine mechanic.
According to the newspaper account, Dewar and a friend were fishing at Quechan Lakes. The friend reported that Dewar had tried to swim to a sandbar but was unable to make it and disappeared underwater.
Funeral services are scheduled Saturday at 7 p.m. at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville. Smith Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
