(June 21, 1922 - February 19, 2006) U.S. Veteran William Greene Brogan, age 83, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a long-time music teacher at Everett High School and Walland Middle School from 1958 until his retirement in the early 1980’s. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the 325th Glider Infantry of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. He received a Purple Heart and three Battle Stars during service in Sicily, Italy, Normandy, and France. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Brogan; sisters, Reeda Mae Brogan Woesten, Margie Brogan, Bessie Brogan James, and Virginia L. Brogan; brothers, Robert Matthew Brogan, James Benton Brogan, and John Randolph Brogan; niece, Ponjola Brogan Carlisle; and step son, David Piercy. He is survived by his wife, Sarah J. Tinker Brogan; step-sons, Joseph Tinker and wife Julie M. of Denver, CO and Guy Piercy and wife Fran Piercy of Knoxville; step daughter, Carol and husband Jerome Chambers; niece, Evelyn Brogan Ataherton of Columbus, OH; great niece, Carmen Renee Carlisle Gregg and husband Daniel of Georgia; and great nephew, Byron Thomas Carlisle. Family and friends will meet at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville and proceed in a funeral procession at 1:30 PM to Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the graveside service and interment at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2006; full military honors will be provided.
