WIDENER, JAMES ODIAS "SODA" "POP" - age 92 of South Knoxville, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009 at his home. He was a WWII veteran, having served with the First Infantry Division in North Africa, the invasion of Sicily, D-Day, France, Belgium, Germany, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Widener; parents, James Roscoe and Mollie Widener; brother, I. C. Widener; sisters, Zella Galyon, Dorothy Jones, Myrtle Allen, and Jonnie Widener. Soda is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Brenda Widener of Luttrell; grandchildren, Daniel Widener, Debbie Colson and her husband Renick; step-grandchidren, Chance Devault and girlfriend Crystal Orrick, Brooke Jones and husband Tim; great grandchildren, Jessica Loveday and husband Dewey, Cody Carringer, Chelsey Jones, Isaac and Isaiah Orrick-Devault; great-great granddaughter, Mandolyn Moon Carringer; sisters, Mae Haynes, Lillie Perkins, Reba Irwin James; sister-in-law, Pat Butler and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1:00-3:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Highland South Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. A. R. Baumgardner officiating. Burial will take place 11:00 AM Monday, July 20, 2009 at Highland South Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Widener, Jessica and Dewey Loveday, Cody Carringer, Chance Devault, Tim Jones, Renick Colson, and Darrell Perry.
